This 14th century building was once the Bailiffs House for Sir Henry Dering's estate which was granted to him by King Charles II for his help in the civil war. the shape of the windows was degreed by Dering because he had escaped through one of this type when he was pursued by the roundheads
The Black Horse in Pluckley, is a 14th-century pub Locals have reported a shadowy figure pacing the upstairs rooms, accompanied by the sounds of a horse galloping outside from the Ghostly Highwayman, Guests and landlords have historically reported glasses sliding across shelves and cutlery mysteriously rearranging itself, Apparitions of a small child have been spotted by patrons, often triggering pet dogs to react or refuse to enter certain rooms, 14 ghosts from the Civil War period appear regularly in the streets, churchyard and houses. The Black Horse itself is believed to be haunted by 4 ghosts of the Dering family
